2018 Scholarship - James Connor Brannigan (Binghamton)
James Connor Brannigan is a multi-instrumentalist, actor, singer, and amateur audio technician from Kings Park, a small hamlet on the north shore of Long Island. He is a two time selected participant in the New York All-State music festival, a six time selected participant in the Suffolk County All-County Music Festival, and the recipient of the Music in the Parks Best Jazz Soloist Award. Of all the accolades he’s received, he’s most fond of that one, because he won it at Six Flags and got to show it off on the line for Kingda Ka. Connor, as he’s known to his friends, family, and dogs, has been singing in school choruses since tenth grade and playing in school bands since third grade, but making semi-melodic loud noises with household objects (a hobby he enjoys to this day) for much longer. His theatre credits include the Voice of the Plant in Little Shop of Horrors, George Banks in Mary Poppins, and Hamlet in The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged). He has worked as an editor, producer, and as voice talent for WCWP, a local radio station, and hosts a bi-monthly podcast with his friends.
Connor had a relatively normal, incident free suburban childhood, where he developed his passion for cartoons, violent video games, and Miles Davis. He highly recommends all three at the same time, if possible. His favorite book is The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, although Moby Dick is a close runner up. An avid collector of Star Wars memorabilia, he considers himself rich not in money, but in limited edition figurines he hastily removed from the packaging. His favorite food is a decision in a state of constant flux, but his favorite cereal is firmly Cinnamon Toast Crunch. Connor, like most of us, is unsure of what his future holds, but he hopes that, wherever life takes him, it’s filled with good times, good friends, and good music.
