Memorex is not known for their karaoke machines. Those of us old enough to remember, know them as the manufacturers of blank CDs and cassette tapes. But today there is one karaoke machine manufactured under the brand name. It is widely applauded as one of the best karaoke machines on the market today.

However, not all karaoke machines are suitable for kids, and not all products live up to their hype. How good is the Memorex Sing Stand, really? And will your kids enjoy it? That is exactly the sorts of questions this article will explore.

Memorex MKS-SS2 SingStand 2

Memorex MKS-SS2 has controls at the very bottom. This has a wonderful benefit of making it more lightweight and portable. Overall, the Sing Stand is an excellent choice for your children who are 9+ years old.

What makes a good karaoke machine? A karaoke machine should be the conduit for all the aspects of karaoke. It should be a place where the background music, lyrics, and singing all come together. It should be able to distribute all the parts anywhere you want them to go. And this whole process should be simple.

For kids, the unit needs to be durable. Kids aren’t exactly easy on their toys. All karaoke machines should be easy to use, but one intended for kids should be especially simple. Depending on the age of the children, these requirements can be flexible. Older kids will appreciate the delicate nature of electronics. And many kids as they age become much more adept at electronics than their parents are.

Karaoke machines typically play old school CD+G discs. They are normal music CDs with graphics included for displaying lyrics. These are a bit outdated now that we have Youtube karaoke versions of every song imaginable for free. So a karaoke machine for today should be able to stream from multiple devices for maximum song choice.

Memorex MKS-SS2 SingStand 2 Overview

The Memorex Sing Stand is completely different from most karaoke machines. Most karaoke machines are box shaped with a microphone connected to a microphone port. The Sing Stand is a completely different layout. It looks like a simple microphone stand. It has the controls at the very bottom. This has a wonderful benefit of making it more lightweight and portable. It also takes up less space in the closet. However, it is a bit more fragile, and might be too much so for small children.

The most revolutionary part of the Sing Stand is that it really embraces the times. It doesn’t take CD+G discs. Instead, it requires you to stream music from your devices. You can plug them into the audio port to send the music through your sound system. Most karaoke machines have this capability. But it is hard to hold the little tablet or phone in one hand and the mic with the other. The Sing Stand has a little cradle so you can display the phone easily in front of you while singing. However, the Sing Stand does not take CD+G discs. This can be bad for people who have a bunch of CD+Gs that they really love.

The Sing Stand has a port to plug in your instruments and accompany yourself. It also has an additional microphone input for duets.

Memorex MKS-SS2 SingStand 2 Pros And Cons

How does the Sing Stand actually stand up to the criteria created earlier? Well, if you’re looking for a karaoke machine for small children, this might not be the choice for you. Its slim stand design may be a little too fragile for your smallest children. Small children also like to carry their karaoke machines around singing into them. The Memorex is definitely stationary. The set-up is easy enough for adults and older kids. But little ones will struggle to operate the wires and controls. And the stand probably doesn’t get low enough for toddlers. However, the microphone does detach from the stand.

The Sing Stand goes above and beyond in conforming to the needs of modern users. There are very few karaoke machines available today that offer stands for reading lyrics from your devices. It does offer the ability to display lyrics on the TV screen as well. This requires a USB port, which is only available on modern televisions. In every way, the Sing Stand is built for 2016 and beyond. There is even the option to purchase the Sing Stand 3 for a slightly higher price. This one has Bluetooth, which reduces the number of cords needed. It also streamlines the lyrics to TV experience even more. Overall, the Sing Stand is an excellent choice for your children who are 9+ years old.

Conclusion

Amazon includes the Sing Stand 2 in its karaoke machines for kids category. But, in reality, it’s not really the best karaoke machine for kids. It is an excellent machine for older children and adults. But it probably won’t stand up to the needs of a smaller child. If your children are getting older, or if you want entertainment for the entire family, the Sing Stand is a fantastic option.

The speakers don’t have a lot of power, so if you want to blow people away, hook the SingStand up to a guitar amp!
